Stacey Abrams: Making Change Out of Defeat at SXSW 2019 [Video]

National political trailblazer Stacey Abrams served eleven years in the Georgia House of Representatives, seven as Minority Leader, and in 2018, Abrams became the Democratic nominee for Governor of Georgia, when she won more votes than any other Democrat in the state’s history. She was the first black woman to become the gubernatorial nominee for a major party in the United States.

On stage at SXSW 2019 with White House correspondent of the PBS NewsHour Yamiche Alcindor, Abrams discussed her feelings of anger and injustice in the wake of the election as well as her new book, Lead from the Outside.

"We have to stop allowing identity to be weaponized against us."
